RNC Convention Shows Why The Planet Cannot Afford Four More Years Of Trump: A Statement by Michelle Deatrick, Chair of the DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis

“In a week in which wildfires devastated California and a massive and deadly hurricane came ashore in Louisiana, one would never know we are in a climate crisis from watching the four nights of the Republican National Convention. While it’s not surprising that Donald Trump and Republicans, who ignore science, fact, reason and reality, did not address the climate crisis during their convention, it is no less dire for our planet.

“Let’s be clear, the climate crisis is not coming, it is here. And it has been made exponentially worse by the policies of Donald Trump and Republicans. The Trump Administration, which is run by the oil and gas industry, has rolled back landmark environmental protections, undermined key environmental justice provisions, declared open season on our public lands and revoked nearly every Obama-era climate protection.

“As if we needed another reminder, this week’s convention once again proved that our planet - and all who live on it - cannot afford another four years of Donald Trump and Republicans.”
