The 2020 Democratic Party Platform and Fossil Fuel Subsidies: A Statement from the DNC Council on the Environment & Climate Crisis

The Council released the following statement about the Democratic Party Platform and fossil fuel subsidies.

“The Council is disappointed in several aspects of the DNC’s platform creation process, including the alteration of the Platform after it was already voted on and approved by the Platform Committee. The DNC Climate Council has long advocated for the platform process to be open, transparent and inclusive. This process fell far short of those goals.

We are pleased that the Biden/Harris campaign remains committed to ending fossil fuel subsidies, which is crucial to addressing the climate crisis and ensuring environmental justice, and we are working to ensure that the shortcomings in this platform process are not repeated at future conventions.”
