HISTORIC! DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis Praises Confirmation Vote For Deb Haaland To Be Interior Secretary

Statement from Michelle Deatrick, Founder and Chair of the DNC Environment and Climate Crisis Council

“This is a historic day. This confirmation vote is a remarkable moment for this nation and a long time coming. It is also a very good day for the environment.

“Just as she was in Congress, Secretary Haaland will be a bold, inspiring and barrier breaking Secretary of the Interior. She is an environmental champion and will be a true ally in protecting our land and waters, combating the climate crisis and fighting against environmental injustice.

“This is a huge win for our movement, the moment, and the future: a dedicated, effective Native American woman to lead a department with a troubled, racist history. What a remarkable and powerful statement by the Biden Administration and those who supported her nomination in the US Senate.”
