DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis on the 2022 Elections
The DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis Chair Michelle Deatrick released the following statement on this week’s election:
“Democrats defied all odds and had the best midterm election in over 20 years because from President Biden on down we made the stakes of this election clear. And the results could not be plainer. Voters — in red states and blue states — rejected the extremism we have seen from Republicans and chose to continue with the progress we have made over the last two years rather than go backwards.
“Just as we did in 2020, Democrats ran on and won on our work to fight the climate crisis this election. We know this issue was hugely motivating to younger voters— the very voters who were difference-makers in close race after close race, all over the country.
“When we run on climate, we win. Democrats will now double down on our commitment to do everything we can to save the planet and continue to pass policies to fight the climate crisis and uphold environmental justice.
“In this election, climate was on the ballot and climate won.”
This election cycle the DNC Council the Environment and Climate Crisis ran its largest ever midterm effort including:
Turning out the environmental vote for Democrats up and down the ballot in multiple battleground states.
Holding more than 20 organizing events in key states including Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maryland, California, Alaska and New Mexico.
Organizing phone banks and outreach events to amplify Democrats’ historic achievements when it comes to fighting the climate crisis.
A 17 state GOTV effort.
