DNC Enviro Council Praises House Passage Of Build Back Better; Calls Bill “Greatest Investment In Fighting The Climate Crisis In Nation’s History”
Statement of Michelle Deatrick, Chair of the DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis, on the House passage of Build Back Better:
“Today is a historic day. Joe Biden and House Democrats ran on a platform to deliver bold solutions to the climate crisis and today they delivered on that promise. Let’s be 100% clear on this: The Build Back Better Act is the greatest investment in fighting the climate crisis in our nation’s history.
“The climate crisis is not coming. It is here now: record temperatures, historic flooding, deadly wildfires, increasingly intense storms. And time is running out to address it. This bill takes unprecedented action to blunt the devastating impacts of the climate crisis and environmental injustice. Particularly, the legislation will invest nearly $600 billion in climate action and a sustainable, just energy future with new family-sustaining jobs, including more than doubling the rate of wind and solar expansion, ending international fossil fuel subsidies, replacing lead pipes, reducing families’ average utility bills by $500 each year, and creating and ensuring clean, safe water in thousands of communities.
“We applaud President Biden, Vice President Harris and all the Democrats in the House of Representatives who advanced this vital piece of legislation. Now, the Senate must act without delay. Our planet and its people can not afford to wait any longer.”
