DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis Praises President Biden’s Infrastructure Plan

Statement from Michelle Deatrick, Founder and Chair of the DNC Environment and Climate Crisis Council

“As President Biden has said, we can’t just build back. We have the responsibility and the opportunity to build back better - much better.

“Building back better means building an economy that is sustainable and that addresses the climate crisis head-on. The climate clock is ticking. We must engage in a just transition to clean, renewable energy while prioritizing investments in the communities disproportionately harmed by the climate and environmental crises.

“We need major investments to meet the challenges of the necessary managed transition to clean renewable energy along with the also absolutely necessary protections for public health, communities, the economy, and the future.

“It is crystal clear, from the size, scope and boldness of the plan announced today, that President Biden and his Administration understand the challenges and the opportunities that lie before us. We can, and must, rebuild our country in a way that both creates economic growth and centers the planet and people.

“The President’s plan is exactly why he received more votes than any other candidate in history. He is meeting the moment and moving this nation forward with policies that will create millions of good-paying union jobs, rebuild our economy and address this crisis unflinchingly.”
