DNC Climate Council: Republican Latest Infrastructure Proposal Is Divorced From Climate Reality

Statement of Michelle Deatrick, National Chairwoman, DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis:

“The latest infrastructure proposal from Republicans, which strips nearly all the environmental provisions from President Biden’s plan, is completely divorced from reality. The climate crisis is here, and it is worsening rapidly. Inaction is not an option. Continuing fossil fuel subsidies is not an option. Ignoring the science is not an option. Just days ago, the world’s leading energy body, the International Energy Agency, issued a landmark report that calls for no new fossil fuel infrastructure and for vastly increasing investments in renewables - a necessity for the world to avoid devastating levels of climate change.

“Any infrastructure plan that fails to acknowledge and address this reality should be dead on arrival. President Biden laid out a bold plan to not only build back better, but build back sustainably, addressing the climate crisis and environmental injustice. Stripping out these key provisions weakens the bill and puts people, planet and our future in certain, grave danger.”
