Council Praises Selections of Granholm and McCarthy to Key Positions in the Biden-Harris Administration
Statement from Michelle Deatrick, Founder and Chair of the DNC Environment and Climate Crisis Council:
“News that former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and former EPA Chief Gina McCarthy are joining the Biden-Harris Administration in key positions involving the environment and climate crisis is tremendously promising, and a clear sign that the incoming Administration is poised to take bold action to address the growing threat of climate change.
These two accomplished and impressively credentialed women will make tackling climate change a priority from Day One. We could not be more thrilled with their joining the team. As Michigan governor, Jennifer Granholm was both a superlative manager and a clean energy champion. She has continued her climate leadership since leaving office and will be an inspirational Secretary of Energy. Gina McCarthy is an exciting choice for White House Climate czar, combining excellent policy, climate and managerial chops.
These appointments are excellent signs of the new Administration’s commitment to not only reversing the damage done by the Trump Administration, but also advancing environmental justice and the comprehensive, transformative new policies necessary to counter the climate crisis.”
