DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis Praises President Biden’s Climate Executive Orders

Statement from Michelle Deatrick, Founder and Chair of the DNC Environment and Climate Crisis Council

“President Biden ran and won as a climate candidate, and from Day One, he has acted with boldness, urgency and vision to fulfill that mandate.

“President Biden’s historic initiatives resoundingly affirm, once again, that he is a climate champion and will be a climate president, acting to uphold environmental justice, fight climate change, rebuild our economy through growing good-paying green jobs, and center the climate crisis in global relationships.

“The President’s actions today once again demonstrate his unwavering commitment to addressing the intersectional threats to health, equity, economic growth, and our future posed by climate and environmental issues. President Biden’s responses to these challenges, announced today – from establishing key environmental justice agencies, to directing 40 percent of federal environmental investments to frontline communities, to prioritizing actions to end pollution hotspots, to ending fossil fuel subsidies under executive jurisdiction, to creating a Climate Conservation Corps – are bold and sweeping, and will have lasting impact for generations to come.

“President Biden is delivering on the overwhelming support of voters for urgent, assertive action to address the climate crisis.

“Reversing the damage of the previous administration will not be quick nor easy. But these measures, taken in just this first week in office, are a big step in the right direction. We are in the midst of the climate crisis. Time is running out. And we look forward to working with the President and the whole Administration to continue to quickly address the climate crisis.”
