DNC Climate Council: Exxon Lobbyist Video Must Be A Wake Up Call For Congress To Act

Michelle Deatrick, Chair of the DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis, released the following statement on a leaked video from Greenpeace UK that shows an Exxon lobbyist telling the truth about the company’s efforts to kill climate policies:

“After years of lies, cover-ups and PR spin, the truth is finally out. And the truth is this: Exxon has known for more than 40 years the extreme damage to the planet and our climate that their company is causing. And they have not only lied to cover it up, but have actively worked to defeat legislation and policies that would address the crisis.  

“While the tape is shocking and scandalous, what is equally disturbing and scandalous is that Exxon continues to this day to get billions in federal subsidies while they are lying to the public and destroying our planet. 

“Congress can and must end these subsidies. This video must be a wake up call. Time is running out.”
