Happy Earth Week Climate Activist,

On Earth Day, I joined President Biden and environmental leaders from across the country as the President launched a week of historic climate action, beginning with the opening of the American Climate Corps and a $7 Billion investment in Solar for All. We celebrated how far we have come in addressing the climate crisis over the last three years — and the prospect of what is to come. President Biden has centered the environment and climate crisis from his first day in office, starting with rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement. He continued that focus with landmark climate legislation — the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act — that has already put us on the path to a net-zero economy and created more than 270,000 clean energy jobs. Looking forward, these bills will save families and communities billions on their electricity bills as soon as 2030, slash carbon pollution, and create 1.5 million jobs by 2030.

In addition, the American Climate Corps will offer opportunities to fight climate change, install solar panels, conduct climate science — and will eventually employ more than 20,000 young people. The Solar for All program will create and build on existing low-income solar programs, ensuring over 900,000 low-income and disadvantaged households benefit from solar energy. Together, these programs center communities that are disproportionately affected by climate pollution.

It was my honor to join the President for Earth Day and it filled me with hope and determination. We have come so far. We have so far to go. And by electing Democrats up and down the ballot, starting with re-electing President Biden and Vice President Harris, we can keep our movement, our momentum and our hope for a sustainable future.

In service,

Michelle Deatrick

Chair, DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis
